A hybrid heat pump system pairs a Lennox heat pump with either a gas furnace or an air handler. In mild weather the heat pump runs on electricity at high efficiency. When temperatures drop below the heat pump's balance point, the gas furnace takes over automatically — giving you the lowest possible operating cost year-round without sacrificing comfort on the coldest Chicago nights.

What is a hybrid heat pump system?
A hybrid system pairs an electric heat pump with a gas furnace (or air handler). The heat pump handles heating and cooling in mild weather. When it gets too cold for the heat pump to operate efficiently, the gas furnace takes over automatically.
At what temperature does the gas furnace take over?
The switchover point (called the balance point) is typically set between 30°F and 40°F. D's Air programs this during installation based on your home's heat loss and local utility rates.
Do I need a special thermostat?
Yes — a dual-fuel thermostat is required to manage the switchover between heat pump and furnace. D's Air includes thermostat programming with every hybrid installation.
Can I get rebates on a hybrid system?
Hybrid heat pump systems may qualify for the federal 25C tax credit (up to $2,000) and Lennox seasonal rebates. Ask D's Air about current incentives when you schedule your estimate.
